Revolutionary Poetry
Poetry was not at all that popular or heard of during this time period. But it did still exist. There were people who still enjoyed poetry and writing. In fact there has been poetry found that was written by soldiers fighting in the war. They are mostly down beat and depressing since they are written about war. Some of the poetry was love because soldiers would write them to their wives. There were some important people that wrote poetry, but because it was such a pressing time the politicians were consumed by official matters.
During the Revolutionary War time period, poetry was very popular. The war changed the way poetry was written. Poetry was written about the war or the feelings people had on certain war-based topics. Many of the poems were politically based and influential. They would show how good independence was, and how they saw the war. Many of these pieces were inspirational, dramatic, or sad to show peoples views.Francis Scott Key, the author of The Star Spangled Banner, wrote the poem while he was a prisoner of war during the Revolutionary war. This poem became very famous and later became the National Anthem. During this time African American’s would write poems. They would write about racism or religion from their point of view. During this era many people wrote about slavery. Some types of poetry written during the Revolutionary Era include Odes, Sonnets, Lyrics, or even Dramatic Monologues.
