American Realism
The realism period was between the late 1800’s to the early 1900’s. Some notable writers from this era are Mark Twain, Stephen Crane, and John Steinbeck. The movement was not only a literary movement. The movement was influenced by the French realism movement many years earlier. - Sam
The purpose of realism is to instruct and to entertain, the philosophy of realism is known as non-transcendental or descendant, people know to be connected with realism or realists were known as being democratic experimental and pragmatic.
The subject matter of realism is taken from “our experience” many of which are taken from our relations and interaction between other people and society. Realism has the style of realistic writing going further into the interactions between two things, realism can be seen as the vehicle of which carries realistic philosophy, subject matter, and morality. Emphasis is placed upon scenic presentation and de-emphasizing authorial comment and evaluation. There is an objection to omniscient point of view. - Karl

Mark Twain was the most notable name from the realism era he wrote many very notable books such as The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn which has been called the great American novel.
