Romanticism Literature
Through the use of fictional characters and events to entertain and or to portray the story to make an unrealistic spin that started in the American Romantic Era has created a genre in literature that has thrived even to this day. Taking place right after the era of realism throughout the European countries came about the style of Romanticism. Romanticism was the reaction to realism and its strict adherence to reality. Although keeping a sense of reality within the story as well as human traits to relate back to the readers, the authors also created outlandish stories to give the readers a sense of being able to do anything. Because of the detachment from reality it gave, Romanticism slowly became popular in all of society.
With an early introduction to the American society, in the 1820s, with the publication of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, it later became more popular to writers through the usage of the style by Edgar Allen Poe, Mark Twain, and many others. Some authors wanted to experiment with it while others had finally found a name to their style of writing and an audience that will read it. Because the French saw so much success in European countries and in its introduction in American culture, the promise land made it their own and created a genre of hopes and dreams as well as worries and nightmares. This style still exists today in most forms of fiction and the most read type of story in existence today.
