American Realism Overview
American realism occurred within the 20th century and was a movement between art, music and literature. It often depicted (within the literature and art) a contemporary style, in which culture would often be portrayed. It was a precursor to the naturalist movement and was essentially opposing the romantic era. This was said to be a civil war within the world of art just after the american civil war. It focuses on how man is just man and not some god as the romantic era would see a man or just a helpless piece in a puzzle as the naturalist believed.
This is an example of american realism art. The name of this piece is American Gothic and it is by Grant Wood. It demonstrates American Realism because it is a very realistic looking piece of art.
